Week of April 20-24
Names of Notes on the Staff
Your activity this week is to review the names of the notes on the music staff.
Line Notes
To remember the line notes (the notes that have a line going through them), we can use a mnemonic like "Every Good Boy Does Fine". The first letter of every word is the name of the note in the order they appear on the music staff. Watch "Every Good Boy Does Fine" from Music K-8 for other ways to remember the line notes. You can also try making up your own mnemonic......be creative! Remember, we name the notes beginning at the line on the bottom of the music staff and move up like climbing a ladder.
Space Notes
The space notes (the notes that sit in the empty spaces between the lines) spell the word "FACE". Watch "FACE" from Music K-8 to help you with the space note names. We name these notes starting at the bottom of the staff as well and move up like climbing a ladder.
Practice
Visit "Musicplay Online" and play "Note Name Memory". This game can be found on the right hand side of the screen. You may have to scroll down the page a little in order to find it. Try playing all 3 versions of the game. Challenge yourself to see how fast you can complete each round. You can also choose to use a piece of paper or a white board to practice the note names. Draw the 5 lines of the music staff, make sure to leave space in between the lines. Practice writing the note names. Ask a family member to time you to see how fast you are at the beginning of your practice and again near the end. Challenge yourself to see how fast you can write all of the line and space note names!
